Born in 1927, Frank traveled in 1944 from his family home of Swifton Arkansas at the young and adventurous age of 17. He settled in Rockford IL. Some of Frank’s family still resides in Arkansas including his brother Paul Gay.
As a young man, Frank was a talented musician and performed for many years at establishments in the Rockford area. His first band was Frank Gay and the Trail Riders, and later the more popular band of Frank Gay and the Gayblades. Frank Gay and the Trail Riders were also part of a television show on WTVO, Rockford IL in the 1950’s.
Frank was the owner/operator of Frank Gay’s Marquee, Belvidere IL, Boone County, for 34 years along with his son, Greg Gay. Frank met many wonderful people throughout his years in business, some who are cherished friends to this day. Frank and Greg worked side by side for many years, and the Marquee was a well run and famous establishment because of their dedicated work and Frank’s personality.
Formerly married to Vivian Gay. Daughters Sharon (Thomas) Bailey and Gina Cook, and sons Gregory Gay and Perry (Debra) Gay. Grandchildren: Sarah (Allen) Gahl, Jordan Bailey, Emily Bailey, Kyle Gay, and Ryan Gay. 4 Great grandchildren of Sarah (Allen) Gahl.
Visitation Thursday 08/11/11 from 1-3 pm with service at 3 pm at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N Alpine Rd, Rockford IL. Graveside service at Sunset Memorial Gardens immediately thereafter.
