Francis Baker

Francis “Fran” C. Baker, 84, of Pecatonica, IL, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 8, 2023, at Serenity Home in Oregon, IL. Fran was born to Gerald and Gertrude Baker on July 11, 1939, in Rockford. Fran married the love of his life Loretta Olson on June 25, 1960 at St. James Church of Rockford. Shortly after, Fran was drafted into the United States Army, faithfully serving from 1963 to 1965, and then spending 2 years in the reserves. He then went on to work with Testor Corporation as a machine repairman and was employed with them until retirement.

Fran and Loretta always enjoyed maintaining their land and owning and trail riding horses. This was a hobby that started in their early marriage and followed them into retirement. As an airplane mechanic in the US Army, he naturally turned into a handyman, and would tinker with anything that he could find. Fran was quiet, but well-spoken, and his kindness will always be remembered. He was the kind of man to help anyone in need, but especially his family. He was a family oriented husband, father, and grandfather in his years.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Loretta; daughter, Michelle (Mike) Phillips; grandson, Tyler Phillips; siblings, Jim (Nancy) Baker and Jan Couch; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Sharon (George) Miller and Gail (Keith) Hodge.
