Dorothy Lucille Rumple, age 97, of Rockford, Illinois passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2023. She was born in Waterman, Illinois on October 5, 1925 to the late Carl and Ione (Swift) Ritter. She received her certificate for nursing in 1946 and continued her career as a registered nurse.
Dorothy enjoyed the outdoors and traveling to many places with her husband. Their most memorable visits were to Australia, Hawaii, Africa, Rome, and Germany. When at home, she was always in the sun and found peace in tending to her gardens. She took pride in her flowers, vegetables, and maintaining a flawless yard. She was a member of her church's Hand bell Choir and spent her free time participating in her Golf and Bowling Leagues. She was a member of the Bowling 600 and 700 clubs, and can be recognized in the league's Hall Of Fame.
Dorothy is survived by her sons Jerry (Lori) Rumple and Jeff (JoJo) Rumple; her grandchildren Taylor (Andrew) Hildebrand and Sydney (Cole) Rumple; her great-grandson Case Hildebrand and great-granddaughter due in October; and her siblings Donna Koltz and Gene Ritter. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Louis Rumple; her daughter-in-law Kathy Rumple; and her siblings Doug Ritter, Paul Ritter, Barb Schultz, Harriet Gott, and Peggy Lungwitz.
Our family would like to extend our appreciation to the third floor doctors and staff at OSF and to OSF home hospice for their exceptional care during mom’s final days.
A visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m., Friday, July 7, 2023 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd, Machesney Park, IL 61115. Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 a.m., Friday July 7, 2023. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dorothy’s name can be made to Alzheimer’s Associations or Alpine Lutheran Church.
