Dorothea M. Hockison, 94, of Rockford, IL, passed away peacefully, Friday morning, July 19, 2024 at River Bluff Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family. She was born September 17, 1929, the daughter of Chester and Mary (Champion) Garner. Dorothea married the love of her life, Richard L. Hockison on January 4, 1947. Dorothea was a member of a friendship club for over 40 years, where the group would meet for lunch and many activities. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother while her sons were in Scouts. Dorothea loved gardening and tending to her flowers. Most of all, she dedicated her life to caring for her husband, Richard. Dorothea was a loving and compassionate woman who truly will be missed.
She is survived by her son, Daniel (Kristine) Hockison; daughter-in-law, Charlotte (Richard D.) Hockison; grandchildren, Michelle (Greg) Cassaro, Tammy (Terri) Hockison and Rebecca (Michael) Miller; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sister, Norma Hinrichs and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Richard L., son Richard D., grandchild Thomas Hockison and five siblings.
