Donald R. Kail Jr. “Butch” passed away October 17, 2022. He was born on November 26, 1944 in Rockford to Marjorie and Donald Kail Sr. Donald faithfully served in the United States Army. He served in the Vietnam War and received a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, a Vietnam Service Medal, and Marksman (Rifle M-16) during his time in the service. Don and his brother Ken held the swimming record at East high school for 58 years for their 400 freestyle relay. He worked for many years in construction and carpentry in the Rockford area. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, and softball. He was a deeply devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be missed by many.
He is survived by his children; Kevin (Nikky) Kail and Ted (Jennifer) Kail, grandchildren; Isaac, Madi, Ashley, and Alyssa, Delainey, Kayla, Addison, and Ivy Mae, great grandchildren; Gabrielle and Johnny, as well as his siblings; Kenneth J. Kail, and Karen (Dan) Steiner, he is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family members whom he loved dearly. He is predeceased by his wife; Donna Kail, and parents; Marjorie and Donald Kail.
A funeral for Don will be held Monday, October 24, at 10am. At Sunset Funeral Home. Located at 8800 N. Alpine Rd. Machesney Park IL 61115. A visitation will be held at 9am until the time of service, with burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
