Charles L. Ritter, 80, of Machesney Park, passed away on April 9, 2020. Charles was born in Seward, Illinois on July 16, 1939 to Floyd and Loy Ritter. He attended school in Pecatonica until joining the United States Navy in 1958.When he was honorably discharged in 1961, he became an over the road truck driver for many years. He then worked for and retired from Rockford Blacktop. In retirement he enjoyed watching squirrels and birds; more specifically hummingbirds and cardinals. Throughout his life Charles felt he could tackle any task; tinkering, repairing toys, and making canes are just a few examples. Charles particularly loved fishing and cruising up the river with his family.
Charles is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Paulette (nee Dirksen) Ritter; Cherished children, Cyndi Montgomery, Charles (Mona) Ritter Jr, and Robert Ritter; Loved grandchildren; Mark, Ashlea, Paul, Ian, Isaac, Joe, Nick, Zane, and Ronin; Adored great grandchildren, Brynn, Jayce, and Theodora; Sisters in law, Sandy and Rita, and many nieces and nephews. Charles was preceded in death by his parents Floyd and Loy (nee Page) Ritter; Brothers Harold and Samuel Ritter; Sister, Vergie Besser; Grandson, Michael.
