Dear Aunt Cathy,

You were always there to listen; always there to care. I'm grateful for the time I got to spend with you and the years I lived with you, Uncle Jim and Dennis. Thank you for everything you did for me. You were more than just an aunt, you were my friend and my heart aches that you are gone. I'll always miss you, but promise I'll always remember all the good times and fun we had together.

Cathy Hines – remembering her

   Born and raised in Paterson, N.J. Grew up in a housing development with her mother and two sisters. Though they never had much, she did not feel at a disadvantage while being raised by her mother with help from her grandparents. Sunday family get-togethers were always a highlight. She suffered with rheumatic fever as a youngster and was bed ridden for several months. This apparently led to her needing the heart valve replacement. 
   She was surrounded by love growing up which led to her having a loving nature. She spoiled her pets with any indulgence. Animals carried a soft spot in her heart. She enjoyed the bird feeder in the window, bunnies that foraged in the back yard, squirrels playing tag around the trees while teasing the dog, and even the nuisance chipmunks that burrow under the front porch. One of her hobbies was collecting figurines about mice. The corner curio and any available shelf space is filled with “Charming Tails” characters. Other hobbies included bowling, walks in parks, day trips to area attractions, and cross stitching. She was good at doing occasional product demonstrations in stores.
   She liked music that was contemporary or soft rock. She played the violin. Some of her favorite artists were the Beatles, Rod Stewart, Kenny Rodgers, Neil Diamond, and Christy Lane. Her favorite movies were romantic stories and comedies. Her favorite character was “Madea” featured in the Tyler Perry movies. She was also a fan of “Abbott and Costello” movies. That could be because the actors came from her home town. She liked the classic Disney cartoons and movies. However, horror shows that her husband dragged her to, tended to give her nightmares. 
   Neatness was a trait of hers. Even when her health was starting to fail, you would find her dusting, vacuuming, and scrubbing the kitchen and bathroom. It was a chore for her to straighten the clutter on the kitchen table and end tables that her family left. A cobweb in the corner of the ceiling or dust bunny under the bed that she couldn't reach annoyed her to no end. She likes flower and plants, but was unfortunately handicapped with a brown thumb and had to settle for artificial plants. 
   Cooking was another joy. She like trying new recipes and everything she made came out great. Her pot roast couldn't be matched by anyone. Her favorite dishes were Italian or German. A big influence was her grandmother. “Nanny” was a person she always tried to emulate. Cathy would try to compare to her cooking. 
   Travel was something she loved to do. Unfortunately, she did not get to do as much as she would have liked. She looked forward to visits to her mother, grandparents, sister, cousins, Uncle Harry, Aunt “Sal”, and friends that lived in New Jersey. She liked the trips to Jersey Shore resorts. She also enjoyed trips to San Diego to see her father and younger sister, a trip to Las Vegas with her sisters and families, and to Disney World in Orlando. Especially enjoyable was at Disney World with her husband for their 25 wedding anniversary.
   She always put others ahead of herself. She was always there for her son, Dennis, and did a terrific job raising him. Her 40 year marriage to husband, Jim, was a continuous love story. Also missing her are her niece, Shelly and nephews, Brian and Bob. She looked upon them as another daughter and sons. She was a constant companion with her sister, Karla, who was also her best friend. The times they shared together were her whole lifestyle.  She also was inspired by sister, Jane. Though they lived miles apart, she felt they were nearby and kept in close touch. Never a week went by without phone calls to each other. Her sister's husbands, Mike and Ralph were also close to her.Though she missed out on her early years with sister, Jude, she was grateful to share their thoughts in her later years. She also maintained close contact with distant cousins Debbie and Johnny along with friend Isabel and appreciated it. She was loved by all her relatives, friends, neighbors, and in laws and in turn loved them back. We will all miss her and remember her, but will be consoled in knowing she is now with the Lord.

Jim and Family:  So sorry to learn of the loss of your loved one.  May the Lord give you strength at this time of sorrow.  And, may the many beautiful memories you have be a source of comfort to you in the days ahead.

Uncle Jim and Dennis ~ I am so very sorry for your loss. Aunt Cathy was a special women. She was always so kind and nice and full of love and life that is how I will always remember her.
