Carol A. Scribner, 86, of Rockford, IL, joined the Lord, on May 29, 2023. She was born May 4, 1937 in Rockford, IL, the daughter of Lyle C. and Alice R. (McCray) Steward. Carol attended East High School. She married Ray Scribner in Rockford, they were married for over 60 years and together raised one son, Curtis. Following high school, she worked for the Schweinler family at the Soda Bar Restaurant in downtown Rockford. Carol then worked for Camera Craft in the Rockford and Elgin locations. In 1968, she purchased the Soda Bar from Eileen Schweinler and operated that restaurant for 30 years in two different locations in downtown Rockford until 1998. Carol was a lifelong member of Brooke Road United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She organized many church dinners such as corn beef and cabbage for St. Patrick's Day and turkey and dressing for Thanksgiving, where many would attend.
Carol is loved and missed by her husband, Ray; son, Curtis (Jennifer); grandchildren, Ryan Scribner, Nicholas Scribner, Traci (Doug) Dannenberg, Jon (Sally) Benson, Taylor Benson and Ashley Golf; 13 great-grandchildren; special family member, Michelle (Mark) DePasqua; sisters, Lyla Flynn, Andrea (Lou) Giamalva and Norma Huntley; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, mother-in-law and father-in-law, Helen and Bill Scribner, brother, Leo Steward, sisters Lois Puls, Ruth Kiser, and Eunice Harris.

A visitation will be held from 9:30-10:30 a.m., Monday, June 5, 2023 at Brooke Road United Methodist Church, 1404 Brooke Road, Rockford, IL 61109 with a funeral service to begin at 10:30 a.m. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
