Bonnie R. Smith, age 83, of Loves Park, Illinois passed away on Thursday, October 17, 2024, surrounded by her family. Bonnie was born in Rockford, Illinois on August 31, 1941 to Russell and Ollie Houston (Geoffrey). Bonnie was married to the love of her life, James H. Smith Sr. for over 51 years. James passed in 2009. Bonnie and James had a cabin in Milton, Wisconsin that they loved going to for family gatherings and fishing. Bonnie was also an avid Bingo player.
Bonnie is survived by her daughters, Brenda (Daniel) McLaughlin, Juanita (Ralph Lowery) Triplett, and son James H. Smith Jr.; Grandchildren, Karri, Michael, Andy, Ryan, Kristi, Tommy, James (Taci), Timothy (Danielle), Jennifer (Nate), Jessie, Heather, and Natasha; And 17 great grandchildren; son-in-laws, Kenny Carrico and Bill McLaughlin; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, James H Smith Sr.; daughter, Aileen Carrico and Nina McLaughlin; parents, Russell and Ollie Houston; brother, Marshall Houston.
A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 from 10am until the time of the funeral service at 11am at Sunset Funeral Home (8800 N. Alpine Road,Machesney Park, IL 61115). Entombment will take place following the service at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
