Arnold “Ray” Scribner, 88, of Rockford, joined the Lord and his wife, Carol, on March 19, 2024. Ray was born April 8, 1935, in Atchison County, Missouri to Bill and Helen Scribner. He graduated from Tarkio High School before attending an airline school in Missouri. From there he joined the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne Division in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He completed 35 military jumps, and found his love for flying. He later on became a private pilot. From there, he moved to Rockford in 1960, working for Ozark Airlines for 30 years in seven different cities before his retirement. He was a proud member of the Ozark Airline Silver Swallow Alumni. He met the love of his life, Carol Steward, in 1960, at the Sky Room Restaurant in the Greater Rockford Airport. It was from there Ray knew he met his soon to be wife, and his soon to be son, Curtis. They became a family of three in 1962. They were wed at Brooke Road United Methodist Church on December 16, 1962. They truly loved and lived life together, traveling across the country in their motorhome and visiting places from Branson, Missouri, to Arizona. After retiring, Ray worked with Carol at her Restaurant, the Soda Bar in downtown Rockford. Ray’s faith and family were his priority. He was a humble servant at Brooke Road United Methodist Church.
Ray is survived by his son, Curtis (Jennifer); grandchildren, Nicholas, Traci (Doug), Ryan (Ashley), Jon (Sally), and Taylor (Franco); numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; special family member, Michelle (Mark) DePasqua; numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol; parents, Bill and Helen Scribner; and granddaughter, Lisa Scribner.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the medical staff at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center, Anam Memory Care, and a special thank you to Jurga, Tia, and Liamute for their special care to Ray. The family would also like to thank their Brooke Road United Methodist Church family, and Pastor Violet Johnicker, for all of their support and love.
