Allen J. Oyen, 89, of Loves Park, passed away Friday, September 23, 2016. Allen was born June 25, 1927, in Stoughton, WI; the son of Adolph and Dorothy (Amundson) Oyen. Graduate of Harlem High School, Class of 1945. Veteran of the United States Navy. United in marriage to Elrene Brace on April 18, 1948, in Grace Lutheran Church in Loves Park. Together they raised two daughters. Employed by Illinois Bell for 40 years. Together they enjoyed being snow birds staying in Arizona having first traveled by RV and camping to having their own place there. In his younger years he enjoyed flying small airplanes and was a member of the Blackhawk Flying Club. Favorite pastimes were fishing, golfing and doing yardwork.
Survived by his loving wife, Elrene; daughters, Rhonda Carabelli and Peggy (David) Drake; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Erica) Carabelli of Rockton, Lisa (Torby) Carlson of Roscoe, Tracey (Robert) Anderson of Lake Geneva, WI, Holly (Matthew) Alberts of Raleigh, NC; great-grandchildren, Jordan Carabelli, Tiarra Carlson, Trevin Carlson, Thomas Anderson, Benjamin Carabelli, Megan Alberts, Alissa Carlson, Parker Anderson, Gavin Alberts, Molly Carlson; sister, Marjorie Gullickson; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents; brother, Don Oyen; son-in-law, Joseph Carabelli; brother-in-law, Reynold Gullickson.
Funeral service at 10 a.m. Friday, September 30, at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd, Machesney Park, with visitation from 9 a.m. until time of service. Pastor Charles Waggoner is officiating the service. Final resting will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family for them to establish a memorial at a later date.
