Robert “Bobby” Wilkerson was born on May 13, 1940 in Sumter, South Carolina to parents Robert and Letha (Lawrence) Wilkerson and entered into eternal rest on July 7, 2019 at the age of 79. Bobby married the love of his life, Mabelle McLeod, in Sumter, South Carolina on September 22, 1960. He and Mabelle met when they were both in the 6th grade. Bobby enlisted in the United States Army, retiring after 23 years of service. He and Mabelle raised three beautiful children together. Bobby was strict but caring and always had a lot of love to give. He enjoyed hunting for small game all over the world and fishing. Bobby loved old cars and watching westerns, especially those with John Wayne. He was Baptist by faith, and a member of Grace Baptist Church. Bobby was also active in his community with the food bank and Meals on Wheels. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Bobby will be truly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Bobby was preceded in death by his parents Robert Sr. and Letha Wilkerson, brother Mike Wilkerson and sisters; Mary Floyd and Joan.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Mabelle Wilkerson of Gun Barrel City, daughter Lethia Blanket and husband William of Wagoner, OK, son Mike Wilkerson and wife Wanda of Midlothian, TX, daughter Bridgette Wilkerson and Jay Driscoll of Arlington, TX, grandson Robert Andrew Wilkerson III, step-granddaughter Tara Kling and step-great-grandson Grayson Welch Jr., sister Jane Osborne of Conway, SC, nephew Ret. Col. Chip Osborne and wife Lisa of Pflugerville, TX, other loving family members and many more lifelong friends.
