Lord Ed Hassell was born on July 16, 1990, to parents David and Sandra Hassell. Eddie, as he was known by loved ones or simply “CRASH” to his close friends, entered into eternal rest on November 1, 2020, at the age of 30. Even though he was from a small town in Texas, Eddie always had big dreams and an even bigger personality. He was funny, kind, loving and was always ready to have a good time. To Eddie, family was everything and he loved them fiercely.
Eddie’s lust for life ignited a passion for skateboarding, snowboarding, surfing, scuba diving, skydiving and other extreme sports. In addition to his love of all things extreme, he had a passion for the arts which lead him to pursue a career in Hollywood. Eddie’s talent was recognized for his role in “The Kids Are Alright”, where he received a Golden Globe for his contribution to the film. His other accolades include NBC’s “Surface”, “Devious Maids”, “Jobs” with Ashton Kutcher, “Family Weekend” with Joey King and most recently “Bomb City. Eddie’s dog Reef was a huge part of his life, and even starred alongside him in several roles.
When he wasn’t in front of the camera, Eddie spent much of his time working at BSR (Barefoot Sky Ranch) in Waco, Texas – where he called himself the “Wave DJ” and full time “Kook Inspector” – his antics and over-the-top personality won over patrons and colleagues alike.
Recently, Eddie received his Class 1 and Class 2 certification from the International Surf League Association and he was working to become a surfing judge and professional coach for the sport. Eddie’s devotion to hard work drove him to start his first business, appropriately named “Crashing Waves” – a Private Surf Instruction and Physical Endurance Training outfit.
Eddie was very open about his faith in God and showed the love of Christ through his actions. He was a member of the West Angeles Church of God in Christ.
His talents blessed the hearts of so many, gaining him an international presence and his light shined all over the world. Eddie was very loved and will be missed by so many.
Eddie was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Roxie Geraldine and William Edgar McDonald, Jerry and Linda (Kuyenkendall) McDonald; paternal grandfather, Kiper “KD” Hassell; uncles, Dale Hassell and Tommy McDonald and his dog, Reef “Corn and Beef” Hassell. He is survived by parents, David and Sandra Hassell, brother Benjamin Hassell and wife Sadey, his paternal grandmother, Barbara Hassell and his girlfriend, Presley Cowan, along with other loved ones and many lifelong friends.
