John D. was born on December 24, 1924 in Jasper, Texas and entered into eternal rest on November 15, 2014 at the age of 89 in Kemp, Texas. John D. served in the Navy during World War II and the Korean War where he volunteered for Submarine Service. He worked for General Motors as an electrician at their Arlington, Texas location until his retirement. John D. loved working in his yard and garden. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and the Sons of the American Revolution. But it was being a member of the U.S. Submarine Veterans of World War II of which he was most proud. John D. served as National President of the organization from 1990 -1991. He cherished his fellow shipmates dearly and they thought highly of him also.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy McLemore; parents, Ivy and Katie (Sims) McLemore; three sisters, four brothers, and son-in-law Ralph Salmons. He is survived by one brother, Bobbie McLemore of Jasper; his daughters Lynda Smith and husband Don of Mesquite, Johnnye Sue Salmons of Mesquite, Bertha Williams and her husband Steve of Colville, Washington; eight grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, seven great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on November 18, 2014 at Eubank Funeral Home in Mabank, Texas. Visitation will be at 1:00 pm prior to service. John D. will be laid to rest at the DFW National Cemetery. There will be no graveside service.
