January 3, 2021, at 96 years young. Her spirit now dwells in the memory of so many she touched in her long life, including immediate family, extended family, friends, neighbors, and caregivers.
Born to parents, Elic and Leta Beryl Claborn on September 28,1924, in Orange County, California, the family moved with Jean and younger brother Luther Elic to Crosbyton, Texas. After graduation from Crosbyton High School, Jean attended West Texas State Teachers College, Canyon, Texas, earning a degree in Art Education, she began teaching Art, English, and penmanship to Jr. High students in Crosbyton. She was active in the community for over 30 years with her husband, Don Anderson, and served as president and volunteer in community activities such as Crosbyton Garden Club and Study Club. She was a devoted mother to Rob Anderson, now of Gun Barrel City, Texas and Laurel Anderson, now of Ransom Canyon, Texas.
Her lifelong commitment as "Aunt Jean" extended to her early-deceased younger brother's child, Cecilie Claborn, now of Gilbert, Arizona, and to Cecilie's children, Sabrina Andrews, of Randolph, New Jersey, and Damon Andrews, wife Rachael, and son Maxwell, also of Gilbert, AZ. She was also "Aunt Jean" to Anderson family nieces and nephews and their extended families. To her extended family by marriage she was known as Grammy Jean.
Jean resided for 38 years at Lake Ransom Canyon near Lubbock, and was devoted to the Chapel in Ransom Canyon, planting roses in its garden pathways. She loved this community dearly, and during that time became a community volunteer, property manager, entrepreneur, and a world traveler. She later resided at her second home in Gun Barrel City.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Elic and Leta B. Claborn-Cole, brother Luther Elic Claborn, PhD., and niece Cynthia Claborn. She is survived by daughter, Laurel; son Rob and wife, Jerry, and their children and grandchildren through marriage; Jimm Butler and wife Rachael, Jane Butler Tavern and husband Rick, Jeff Butler and wife Milly; grandchildren, Jason Ramey, Hannah, Matthew, and Jacob Butler; Michael McNew and wife, Logan; Hunter McNew; Krysten McNew; and great grandchildren, Camden and Bentley McNew.
Jean loved so many, and was loved in return, including caregivers with their tender care; Jean's wise and inspiring 96-year life will be remembered, and her memory treasured by all who knew her.
