James Michael McConathy went home to be with our Lord January 21, 2024. Big Mike was born in Harris County, Texas on June 16, 1937, to Mary and J. M. McConathy. Later, his parents would divorce and on July 1, 1946, his mother married E.R. Elom.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents Mary & Rudy Elom, & J.M. McConathy, his mother and father-in-law Virginia & Woodrow Dickson. Sister & Brother-in-law Pat & Dallas McCurdy, brother Danny Elom and son-in-laws, Bootsie Floyd and Paul McNeel.
Mike is survived by his wife, Serena, children; Mike Jr. & Debbie McConathy, Janet & Russell Reynolds, Anita & Dwane Grant, Rena & David Allen and Christy McConathy. Brother Robert Elom, sisters & brother in laws, Mary & Dee Beale, Linda & Terry Stanforth.
Grandchildren: Dj Grant, Michael & Erin McConathy, David Allen Jr., Jessica and Taylor Snow, Nicole and Jacob Horton, Jenny McConathy, Harmony & Cameron Conner, Russell & Kaitlyn Reynolds, Catania & Blake Roberts, Melody & Levi Sams, Brooke Reynolds and Brycen McConathy Great Grandchildren: Canica, Breland, Bentley, Italy & Laykin Grant, Carter & Bear McConathy, Sawyer Allen, Amelia Snow, Lyla, Forrest & Amiyah Horton, Joshua & Carina Conner, Russell Reynolds III, Canon, Cianciana & Everest Roberts, Maggie, Elayna & Luke Sams. Mike is also survived by several cousins, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends lovingly called family.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024, beginning with visitation at 1:00 p.m. Celebration of life at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist church in Eustace with Bro. Paul McKinney officiating. Grandsons are serving as pallbearers. Burial will follow at Moorehead-Melton Cemetery in Eustace under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home.
