Hershel was born on January 11, 1934 in Montgomery, AL to parents Dewey and Clara (Hollon) Bowden and entered into eternal rest on October 29, 2014 at the age of 80. Hershel was known to his family and friends as “Old Man”. He enjoyed being outside tinkering around the house, washing his truck and going fishing. Hershel loved listening to country music and dancing. He would work on cars with his son and loved going to watch his son dirt track race. Hershel’s favorite shows were old westerns and the show Cops. He was a member of the National Guard for five years and for Katy Railroad, Swift Meat Packing Plant and Braniff Airways at DFW Airport. Hershel loved his children, every time he left them he would say, “See you later and I love you” while waving goodbye. Being from Alabama, Hershel would sometimes use Alabama language, “Thundering in the thickets” which meant there was a storm in the distance. He was a Godly man, who loved praying with his family. Hershel was a faithful member at Liberty Baptist Church. He was a very loving caring man who will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Hershel was preceded in death by his parents, first wife June Bowden, sister Inez and brothers; Ernest Bowden and Fred Bowden.
He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Hazel Bowden , daughters Jane Brown and husband Brad and Ann Sturdevant and husband Rodney, son John Bowden, 5 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, brother Allen Bowden, special cousin Clyde Boone, a host of extended family and friends.
