In Gary’s educational years, he attended Eustace ISD and Peacock Military Academy, in San Antonio, Texas. Where he was an all-state football player in 1963. Gary Dean graduated from Eustace High School in the Class of 1965.
Gary married Dianne Williams on September 9th, 1967 at the Elm Grove Church. Gary was a devoted husband and cherished the love they shared. Gary and Dianne moved to Kaufman in 1969, where they purchased their first home together. Gary began working for TXDOT in the Kaufman area where he was a surveyor and later was promoted to project manager. Gary and Dianne welcomed their oldest son Jason Christopher on August 3rd, 1971. Jason became a big brother when Scott William arrived on August 16th, 1976. Gary was a loving, involved, and supportive father, he taught many life lessons both boys still recall today. During the boys’ early years, Gary enjoyed coaching sports, such as Little Dribblers basketball, PeeWee football, Lions Club baseball, and giving back to his community. He held many leadership positions throughout his years and coached many teams to victory. Gary was very strict and served as a disciplinarian for his boys, however, they both know in their hearts that he always had their back no matter what. Gary also took pleasure in spending time outdoors, he hunted for decades and even traveled to west Texas to the family’s deer lease for many years.
Gary retired from the Texas Department of Transportation at the end of 1997. Gary is remembered by coworkers for being extremely organized and professional. Once retired Gary enjoyed spending his time with family and friends along with taking care of his cows on the farm. Gary became a grandfather once Scott’s oldest daughter arrived in August of 1997 and welcomed his second granddaughter in January of 2001. Both Erin and Rylie describe their PawPaw as caring and a wonderful storyteller. He shared many life lessons through his stories that the girls will cherish and share with his great-grandkids for years to come. Additionally, he enjoyed taking the grandkids fishing at one of his ponds and teaching them to shoot guns. In Gary’s later years, he greatly enjoyed indulging in afternoon naps and reconnecting with old friends. Gary has been described as a loyal, trustworthy, and fantastic friend. He was a good listener and always willing to do anything he could to help others. He enjoyed his great-grandkids visiting him and always had a Hallmark movie on for them to watch together.
Gary Dean Andrews was preceded in death by both his father, William Bryon, and his mother, Billie Ruth Andrews, his older brother BJ Andrews, and his wife Dianne Andrews. Along with his beloved friend Cheryl Marion and many other friends and loved ones.
Gary Dean Andrews is survived by his siblings Sue January of Oklahoma, Mickey and wife Cheri Andrews of Richardson, Gala and husband Ron King of Tennessee; sons, Jason Andrews of Kaufman and Scott Andrews of Mabank; his granddaughters Erin and husband Kevin Davis and their kids Brentley, Kevin Jr and Lakelynn of Oklahoma and Rylie Andrews and her daughter Zhuri Valentine of Mabank
A visitation for Gary will be held Wednesday, January 31, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home, 601 South Third Street, Mabank, Texas 75147. A graveside service will occur Thursday, February 1, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Elm Grove Cemetery, 979 VZ Co Rd 2708, Mabank, TX 75147.
Gary will be laid to rest in Elm Grove Cemetery, County Road 2708, Mabank, Texas.
