Freda Jean Smith (nee Boone), age 68, passed away after a long illness of liver failure which caused other major complications, on April 13, 2025, in Tyler, Texas while in ICU after an unsuccessful surgery to try to improve her decreasing health. Born November 4, 1956, in Dallas, Texas, Freda lived a life (in majority located in Mabank, Texas) marked by deep devotion to her family and an unwavering love for those around her.
Freda was the beloved wife of Jerry Smith, with whom she shared 45 years of marriage. Together they built a life centered on unconditional love, resilience, and family. She was a devoted mother to three children: William Jason Neighbors and his girlfriend, Monica Saddler; Ericka Grant and her husband, Paul; and Harley Smith and his fiancée, Abby Moore. Her role as a mother was one she cherished deeply, always present with open arms and a warm heart while always yearning to be involved in any occasion in their lives.
Her legacy continues through her seven grandchildren: Mikalia Grant and her fiancée, Jordan Black; McKenzie Sweet-Grant and her wife Faith; Kylie Kornegay and her husband, Dusty; McKaeden Grant and his wife, Jacklynn; Reveille Neighbors; Mikkenlen Grant; and Wyatt Tedder. Freda's joy multiplied with the arrival of her great-grandchildren: Luxxten, Zaider, Caseton, Dalton, Ronan, Wyldar and she eagerly anticipated the birth of Colter. Each generation was touched by her nurturing spirit and boundless affection.
Freda's love extended far beyond immediate family. She is remembered fondly by a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and many others whom she held close to her heart. Her warmth made everyone feel like family - always.
She was preceded in death by her father, JE Boone; mother, Beatrice Davis Boone; oldest sister, Frances Salazar; youngest sister, Brenda Vandiver Lewsader; mother-in-law, Faye Smith; sisters-in-love, Bonnie Droke and Judy Kay Murphy; brother-in-love, Bobby Smith and Nathaniel Smith; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins who now welcome her home.
Freda's life was defined by compassion and connection. She was a devoted daughter, sibling, parent, spouse and friend whose presence brought comfort to all who knew her. Her ability to make others feel seen and loved left an indelible mark that will endure through generations.
A Formal Memorial Gathering will be held in Freda's honor on Sunday, May 4, 2025, from 2:30 PM to 5:00 PM at LaFinca Salon located at W, 16312 US - 175, Eustace, Texas (75124). This gathering will be of a formal celebration of Freda's life - one that reflects the grace and warmth she shared so freely.
In tribute to one of Freda's favorite traditions - Christmas dinner - a traditional Christmas Dinner Potluck - style meal will follow the service. The family invites guests to bring their favorite holiday dishes to share in remembrance of Freda's love for togetherness during the holidays.
Freda Jean Smith leaves behind a legacy rooted in love - a legacy that lives on in every story told around the table she so lovingly filled. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her.
