Emmett Frederick Barnes, Jr. passed away May 1, 2015. Emmett was born on July 23, 1927 in Canton, Texas to Abigail Dulany Hyde and Emmett Frederick Barnes, Sr. Emmett grew up in Canton, Waelder and Buda, Texas. He graduated from Buda High School in 1944 and then served in the Navy. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Texas in Austin in 1951, with honors (Ramshorn Society). He began working for Union Carbide in Texas City in the same year and continued with Carbide until his retirement in 1989. He rose to Principal Engineer during his Carbide years and advised at plants in Louisiana, West Virginia, Puerto Rico and Brazil. In 1955 he married Mary Faye Willms, and they raised two daughters in Dickinson, Texas. Emmett was a lifelong and devoted church member of Dickinson and Webster Presbyterian Churches.
Emmett was predeceased by his parents and sister, Mavis Barnes Hollyfield Kelton.
Emmett is survived by daughter Melissa Faye Barnes Aldrich and husband Guy Franklin Aldrich III, daughter Melanie Faye Barnes Turner and husband David Turner, granddaughters Lindsay Nicole Aldrich and Michelle Reed Aldrich, sister Beth Barnes Oehler and husband Roy Oehler, five nieces, and one nephew.
Emmett loved hunting, bird watching, and outdoor photography. He will be remembered as a devout Christian, a devoted father, and a great friend to many.
