Billy Lynn Mayhew Sr., a proud Texan born and raised in Dallas, left this world on November 21, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love, hard work, and a passion for life.
Billy, known affectionately as Bill, dedicated a significant part of his life to serving his country, having joined the Navy after completing high school. He carried that sense of duty and discipline with him throughout his life.
In 1970, with his first marriage, Bill welcomed his son, Billy Mayhew Jr., into the world. Later, in 1986, he found love again and married Marsha Mayhew. The couple lived in various Texas towns, from Murchison to Segno, before settling in Henderson County to be closer to family, where they remained until the end.
A skilled butcher by trade, Bill worked for renowned markets such as Tom Thumb, Safeway, Brookshire's, Brookshire Bros., Walmart, and several others. His expertise earned him numerous awards, a testament to his dedication and proficiency in his craft. Later in life, he embraced a new challenge, driving an 18-wheeler for long-haul transports.
Bill's love for vintage and classic cars, especially Chevrolet, was a lifelong passion. Together with his son, they restored and sold these timeless vehicles, showcasing their shared talents in everything from engine repair to paint and trim work.
In addition to his professional pursuits, Bill enjoyed playing golf and cherished the time spent on the course.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Rita Mayhew, and his brother Bobby Mayhew.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marsha Mayhew; daughter Kerri Cloud and husband Chris Cloud of Livingston, Texas; son Billy Mayhew Jr. of Dallas, Texas; brothers Danny Mayhew of Kemp, Texas, and David Mayhew; grandchildren Cody Mayhew and Rylie Ann Proctor; and several nieces and nephews.
As we bid farewell to Bill, let us remember the laughter he shared, the wisdom he imparted, and the love he gave to those fortunate enough to know him. May his memory live on in our hearts, a testament to a life well-lived and a legacy that will endure through the ages.
Rest in peace, dear Bill, and may your journey beyond be as remarkable as the life you lived among us.
