Barbara Marie Johnson, Smith, born on February 10, 1936, in Forney, Texas, peacefully passed away on November 18, 2023, at the age of eighty-seven and is resting awaiting the resurrection. She was a loving daughter, devoted wife, nurturing mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother and cherished friend to many. Her life was a testament to resilience, faith, and the enduring power of God’s love.
Barbara's early years were spent in Forney, Texas, where she resided with her grandparents until the age of five. Subsequently, she relocated to Dallas, Texas, alongside her mother. Her educational journey unfolded in the Dallas school system, commencing at B. F. Darrell grade school and culminating in her graduation from Booker T. Washington High School in 1955. It was during her high school years that she encountered the love of Jesse D. Smith Sr., and in 1956, they joined hands in marriage.
From this union blossomed three beautiful children: Gina Renee' Smith Jenkins, Lisa Gale Smith Pharms, and Jesse D. Smith Jr. Barbara, driven by a strong work ethic and determination, pursued her education in business, ultimately embarking on a fulfilling career at Texas Instruments. She dedicated twenty-eight years of her life to the company, serving in Design Services until her well-earned retirement.
Barbara's spiritual journey was deeply rooted in her unwavering faith. In 1956, she became a cherished member of City Temple Seventh-Day Adventist Church on Harwood Blvd, downtown Dallas, Texas. Her commitment to the church was exemplified through her role as the Children's Division Superintendent for many years. Later, she discovered her true calling as a Bible Worker, a role she embraced wholeheartedly. Barbara's innate love for people and her genuine passion for sharing the Everlasting Gospel of the Three Angel’s Message led her to introduce countless souls to Jesus, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those she touched.
Beyond her professional and spiritual endeavors, Barbara found joy in visiting the sick and shut-in, conducting Bible studies, and instilling in her family the values of righteous living. Her life was a tapestry woven with threads of compassion, generosity, and an abiding commitment to the well-being of others.
Barbara Marie Johnson Smith will be remembered not only for her professional achievements and spiritual guidance but also for the warmth of her heart and the depth of her love. As we mourn her passing, let us celebrate the legacy she leaves behind—a legacy of love, faith, and a life well-lived.
She was preceded in death by husband Jesse Smith, Sr., mother Mae Pearl Roberson and her husband Jesse Roberson.
