Russ was born to Arthur and Marilyn Garrison in Boise, Idaho, on February 21, 1960. A proud Idahoan, Russ met his wife Rhonda, while swing dancing in Salt Lake City, UT in 1981. They were married in 1983 and moved to San Diego, CA. Russ graduated from Capital High School in 1978 and entered Boise State. He later transferred to the University of Utah, where he completed a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Engineering in 1983. In 1999, Russ graduated with a dual Master of Science in Management from Purdue University and an MBA from the International Management Center (IMAC) at ESC Rouen, France.
Russ was a titan in the medical device industry. In 1999 he joined Diagnostic Ultrasound, later Verathon, with Gerald McMorrow and experienced tremendous success until he left Verathon in 2012. He had a passion for start-ups and growing businesses. Russ served on several boards of directors, offering valuable expertise. Business was his livelihood, hobby, and passion.
Russ was an amazing dad, and an incredible husband! He enjoyed his family to the fullest. Adam and Hollie were his life, and he was incredibly proud of his children. Russ grew with every stage of Adam and Hollie’s lives. He always had advice for them, even when they did not seek out his wisdom.
Russ was always seeking adventure while flying his private plane (complete with parachute) across the country, skiing in his Whistler backyard, fishing with his Boise buddies, and trekking to Alaska. He loved to travel with his family. Their favorites were camping, cruising, road trips, tropical destinations, and motorcycle riding, just to name a few.
He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Rhonda, son Adam (Kari), daughter Hollie (Kevin) and adorable grand-daughter Zoie, two brothers Don (Charlotte) and Terry (Penny), and parents Art and Marylin Garrison.
Russ had a vast network of friends and colleagues. He touched countless lives in his short life and will be greatly missed. There will be a private graveside service for family only.
Among the charities that Russ supported, contributions to Water1st International (water1st.org) and Hopelink (hopelink.org) would be appreciated.
