Bob was born to Charles and Jean Huebner on May 4th, 1957, in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan. He grew up in Royal Oak, Michigan, with his two brothers and three sisters. As a child, Bob became enthralled with National Geographic pictures of the natural beauty in the Pacific Northwest. At age 16, Bob pursued his dream of hitchhiking out west. He and a friend travelled through the Canadian Rockies to Seattle, Washington, and back home to Michigan.
Bob graduated Shrine High School in 1975 and went on to Michigan State University. He graduated in 1979 with a B.S. from the College of Engineering. His career in computer hardware engineering took him to Southern California, where he worked for Rockwell Automations.
In 1984, he moved to Washington, where he worked as a subcontractor for various computer companies. In the spring of 1988, Bob met Colleen and her two daughters, Jacinda and Jessica. In 1990, Bob and Colleen were married and had a son, Nicholas.
Bob loved nature and the outdoors, especially hiking with his wife and son.
His love for children and nature led him to volunteer his time and energy to his son's elementary school, Whole Earth Montessori. Bob showed his gratitude through his many contributions to the school. Among these, he designed and built a greenhouse and children's garden.
Bob's artistic abilities and his interest in tinkering led him to start his metal art business, Utopian Metalworks. Some of his artwork still decorates the grounds at Whole Earth.
Bob will be sorely missed by all that loved and knew him.
In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the Whole Earth Montessori School:
