Marie Eloise Ricketts of Seattle passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2017. Marie was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on April 4, 1925 to Lt. Col. Byron and Helen Bowers. After graduation, her family moved during WWII when her father served as Base Commander at Camp Adair, Oregon. There she met a self-confident, handsome enlistee from Everett, Don Ricketts. Their love grew steadily, even with forced absences for the War and the long distance romance, finally marrying in Indianapolis on June 14, 1947. They chose to make their home in the Northwest
As Don pursued his education and career, they started a family and Marie blossomed as a mother and homemaker. She raised and nurtured three children (David, Karen and Chris), ensuring they had the independence and strengths to develop and thrive on their own. She was always there to listen, support, and love - even when they stumbled.
Marie had style, both in manners and taste. Whether it was decorating, fashion, arts or community, she excelled. Many were the times she persuaded Don to drive the extra miles for just the right piece of furniture or home décor. She developed a real love for Native American art and culture. Her homes were the canvases that highlighted her design skills.
We hope you had the pleasure to know Marie: a beautiful woman, loving mother, and dear friend to many. She so valued and enjoyed family gatherings with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandson and with the larger extended families. Marie and Don also had wonderful circles of friends everywhere they lived, with many becoming closer and more dear as time went on. Friends and family members looked forward to the frequent warm, happy parties that Don and Marie hosted.
The passion and unbound energy in Marie’s life was always her deep love and respect for her husband. Don’s passing in 2013 caused her great heartache. We are certain she is now joyful and at peace once again to be with the love of her life, Don. Marie is survived by her children; Dave Ricketts (Linda Melton), Karen Ricketts (Ed Revel) and Chris Ricketts; grandsons Justin, Girard and Michael and great-grandson Marcel. We will dearly miss you Mom!
There will be a celebration of Marie's life at the Beach Cafe in Edmonds on Saturday December 2nd between 1pm - 4pm. In lieu of flowers please donate to the charity of you choice.
