Joe Krause, beloved husband, father, and grandfather; passed away unexpectedly on April 10, 2016. Joe was suddenly taken ill at the Mariner’s game and died shortly thereafter at the UW Hospital with his wife, Marilyn, at his side.
Joe was born January 24, 1946 in Buffalo, NY to the late Elizabeth (Schmidt) Krause and Joseph A. Krause, Sr. He graduated from the SUNY College at Buffalo in 1968, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Social Studies. Joe’s teaching career was cut short when he was drafted. Joe joined the Navy in October, 1968 and served his country honorably for nine years, and achieved the rank of E-6.
Joe married his soul-mate and love of his life, Marilyn (Field) on December 7, 1968. They were blessed with three children; Elizabeth, Shaun, and Emily. Their 47 years together were filled with many adventures.
Joe’s favorite form of travel was cruising. He and his wife explored the world frequently with their dear friends & pinochle buddies, Alayne and Terry Anderson, who were also god parents to their three children.
Joe worked tirelessly for 33 years as a marine electronics technician for Harris Electric, Inc., in Seattle. His job took him to Alaska, Europe, and South America, but he especially loved working every summer on the Naknek River in Alaska preparing the fishermen’s boats for the salmon season.
Joe was never idle. He loved working with his hands. He was a talented woodworker, creating thoughtful gifts for his grandchildren. He was the consummate “DIYer”.
Joe is survived by his wife, Marilyn (Field); 92 year old father, Joseph Krause, Sr.; sister, Sharon Rudy (Fred); brother Mark Krause (Pam); as well as his children, Elizabeth Lyons (Ron); Shaun Krause (Kelly); Emily Hodgdon (Rick); and nine grandchildren.

THAT MAN IS A SUCCESS . . .
Who has lived well,
laughed often and loved much
Who has gained the respect of
intelligent men and the love of children
Who has filled his niche and accomplished his task
Who leaves the world better than he found
it-whether by an improved poppy, a perfect poem
or a rescued soul. Who never lacked appreciation
of earth's beauty or failed to express it
Who looked for the best in others and
gave the best that he had.
