John Buchan was born in Geraldton, Ontario, Canada where his parents Jack and Joan Buchan owned a hotel/restaurant. He then moved with his family as a baby to Newport Beach, California. He lived in California throughout his schooling and moved to Seattle in the 70’s. His occupation was as an appliance technician for 30 years. For the last few years of his life, he had a great time flipping houses.
His passion in life was serving God. He was a musician, playing both guitar and bass. He loved worshiping God with his instruments and leading others into the presence of God through worship. He played on worship teams all of his adult life. He met his wife, Jean, in a practice session preparing music for a camp. He worked with youth at New Life Center and went on a number of mission trips with them to Mexico. He also went to Russia on a mission trip. He was part of the support team for two pastors starting new churches in the area. His last ministry assignment, along with his wife Jean, was heading up the children’s church at Horizon Church. He loved working with the kids, and they loved him.
His hobbies were golf (another serious passion), fishing, and playing cards. He also loved roller coasters, backpacking and camping.
He passed away peacefully on September 7, 2013 after a year long battle with a muscle disorder. He maintained his sense of humor clear until the end. His nightly prayer right up until the end was: “God, you are good, and I trust you.”
He was loving, funny, kind, and very loyal. Family and friends were very important to him. He is survived by his wife Jean Buchan, sisters: Judy Gallegos and husband Tom, and Nancy Wolf. Nephews: Steven Canale, David Bold, Dan Heck and wife Melissa, Matthew Heck, Samuel Heck (with soon to be wife Lisa), Jesse Heck, Christopher Heck and Jeremy Heck.
