Joan was a part of my life before I was 1 year old.  Joan’s, love and laughter created memorable moments in my life, that I’ll always be able to picture vividly.  From spending time at my childhood homes , to enjoying road trips to family reunions. Aunt Joan was even able to watch myself get married. 
So many important chapters in my life, Joan was apart of. I am blessed to have had her apart of my life. I do hope she is enjoying herself, where ever she is. 
I will always love and miss her, but thankful I’m able to.

Joan is always smiling and laughing in my memories. She felt deeply, loved freely, and cared with her passionate heart. It’s not that she didn’t have any sadness in her life. She had had plenty but seemed to always radiate that good stuff. Once I was privileged to be part of a conversation she had with another family member who has also left us, Aunt Helen Peters, when the two were laughing and remembering one the the “difficult” times when they supported each other, snuggled up, I think in Washington, when they comforted each other by sharing memories and crying and hugging and remembering. I have reflected on that poignant memory many times when faced with sadness. Joan was very strong, and seemed to make deliberate choices to be positive and loving. 

Another memory that always makes me smile is of Joan excitedly preparing a party, during our family reunion, for Lacey, who she absolutely adored! Joan was dismantling a bale of hay and then hid tons of coins in it for all the cousins to search for. I fondly remember how lit up Joan’s face was! I think she was as excited as all of the kids! 

Joan was a beautiful, kind soul and will be dearly missed but always remembered with love. 

I am thinking of her now, snuggled up with her loved ones in heaven, laughing, remembering and loving from that place we will eventually join in another family reunion.

I first met Joan at the Pike Place Market joint called Place Pigalle located right behind the fish thrower's market. She was waiting for Joel, the love of my life, and me to walk through the door. Joan gave me, with Pasty Ivanhoe's help, the necessary grilling and then the first of countless years of fun and laughs began. She was my favorite sister in-law of the 6 I had, thanks to my brother Jack.  She would defend you, stand up for you and tell you her truthful opinion if she disagreed.  I was so proud of her working her way through the demanding nursing program, forgoing on summer adventures with Joel, Jim and me a threesome of fools. She was our go to gal for all our ailments. Took care of Winnie and her mom Marg until their passing. Some one line memories that friend/family will remember,, have heard of or should ask Jim about some day: The Grapes of Wrath motorhome trip to the Peters Reunion, Reno, San Fransico, and a quick stop on the way home to grab a pizza and run the RENTED motor home the building; The best Halloween parties ever except maybe the one we took on the road to a Lake City Bar for a slow motion bar fight; Searching for a reunion site in Eastern, WA in our rented station wagon, we passed the Marymoor Castle Museum, Joel thought we should visit so he drove up the the walking hedge lined path with Joan and I screaming, backed out and drove off like Bonnie and Clyde to tree covered pasture so Jim could fit the bent tail pipe causes the billowing smoke; Joan and her sister Diane were pre Hobby Lobby pro decorators of their kids bedrooms then they were little. Don't even get me going on the girl's hair-dos, masterpieces; Joan's love of motorhomes, "The world is your oyster." Love of hoods canal, Birch Bay and Hawaii; Before cell phones she replaced the water pump on the car she was driving with Jim's instructions over the phone; Life of the party and midnight snacker, some times leaving mysterious morning leftovers. She loved us fiercely, lucky us.

Joan was a special Woman. I loved Her smile, laugh, and Her ability to welcome and love me with open arms and without hesitation.  She was always quick to love and give me a hug.  Joan's laughter could easily fill the room with her presence.  I am thankful that She, Jim, & Lacy were always so warm kind and welcoming to me.
