Jack Barger was born in Jefferson City, Missouri July 16, 1930. He grew up in St. Louis during the Great Depression and World War II with his brother Dave and parents Sue and Paul Barger. He and his brother Dave were loyal St. Louis Cardinals fans. They were members of the “Knothole Gang” that allowed St. Louis kids to sit in left field bleachers for free.
Jack attended University of Missouri at Columbia. He would travel home to attend church at Tower Grove Baptist where he met Mary who was a senior year nursing student. It was love at first sight and they were married in St. Louis on November 14, 1952. Jack served in the Army during the Korean War and was stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas.
Jack worked in the financial services industry for more than four decades. He worked with the Wall Street Journal for five years before working in life insurance and annuities. He was an executive with EF Hutton for several years and also worked for Pacific Standard Life and London Pacific in California. He was instrumental in designing whole life and universal life insurance. Jack testified before U.S. House of Representative Ways and Means Committee on tax matters to gain approval for these new concepts. He has been quoted in magazines including Forbes, Fortune, BusinessWeek, Money, Kiplinger’s and daily publications such as The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times.
Jack is survived by his beloved wife Mary Barger who lives at Vineyard Park in Bothell, WA . Son Steve Barger from North Platte, Nebraska -wife Laura, and their four children- David, Tallie, Riley and Hope Barger. Daughter from Bellevue Cathy Barger Hoesterey-husband Roger and their three children- Kyle, Daniel, and Nicole Hoesterey. Son Jim Barger from Bothell- wife Karen, and their two children Jimmy and Elena Barger. Known as Papa to his grandchildren he was a loving, godly man who cared deeply for his family and friends.
A memorial service for Jack will be held at Floral Hills Cemetery Chapel 409 Filbert Road, Lynnwood, Washington on Monday August 26th at 2 pm.
