Pastor Everett Savage was born in Surrey, ND to Glenn and Ida Brend on May 31, 1931, the third of 6 children. The family moved to Marysville when he was 6 and he grew up there, graduating from Marysville High School, Pacific Lutheran University, and Luther Theological Seminary, earning a Master of Theology. From there to language school and on to the mission field in Taiwan, arriving in November, 1958. He worked there as a pastor, teacher, hospital administrator and superintendent, also setting up various programs, such as to help rural people moving to cities, a suicide prevention center, and a drug rehabilitation center.
After retiring in 1996, he moved to Lynnwood where he remained active in Trinity Lutheran Church and assisted at Grace Chinese Lutheran Church serving the local Chinese community. He also worked with the Maritime Ministry, assisting seamen with various needs as their ships came into port in Everett, and Seattle and worked with the Ministry to Chinese Students and Scholars, an outreach program to asians, especially chinese who are studying at UW.
God took Everett back to be with Him on January 26, 2015. His wife of 60 years, Ardyth, and his children, were by his side as he took his last breaths. He was preceded in death by his brother Pastor Glenn Savage Jr., his sister Marion Bratlie, and his brother Charles Savage. He is survived by his wife Ardyth, sister Shirley, brother David, children Lowell, Naomi, and Dean, son-in-law Darren, daughter-in-law Loretta, grandchildren Bethany, Danielle, Dirk, and Caden, and his great grandchildren Kailyn and Brantley.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the many people and institutions that have helped Everett and Ardyth in this difficult time and we ask that any gifts in his honor be directed to the Maritime Ministry or the Ministry to Chinese Students and Scholars of the Northwest Washington Synod of the ELCA.
