Ethel Rose Naples, age 93, of Lynnwood, Washington, passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by loved ones on Friday, September 2, 2022. Ethel was born to Oscar and Viola Whorley in Loring, Montana on July 2, 1929. Ethel was the fifth of seven children. Ethel, being the youngest girl, was responsible for the care of her two younger brothers on their family farm. Ethel graduated from Loring High School in 1946. She married Ray Thorne on October 9, 1950 in Harve, Montana. They moved to Seattle, Washington where they had two sons, Terry and Dan Thorne. Shortly after, Ray and Ethel purchased a home in Alderwood Manor. Ray unexpectedly passed away in August 1955 while working in Alaska. Later, Ethel got remarried to Joseph Naples in 1959. They went on to have two daughters, Darlene and Donna Naples. They remained in Alderwood Manor until 1976, and then went on to purchase a home in Lynnwood, Washington. Ethel would reside here until her death. She took great pride in her home. Rain or shine, she could always be found working in her garden. She particularly enjoyed working in her rose beds. Camping was one of her favorite pastimes. Her and Joe purchased a lot at Port Susan, where you could find them on many weekends spending time with family. After Joe passed, Ethel became active in the community as a volunteer at the Edmonds Senior Center. She was the smiling face that would greet you at the front desk. She was also an active member of the Edmonds Sound Singers for many years and enjoyed performing at many events. Ethel is preceded in death by both of her parents, brother Steele Whorley, brother Robert Whorley, sister Lucille Bunney, husband Ray Thorne, husband Joseph Naples, and granddaughter Charissa Judkins. She is survived by her sister Esther Hofstrand, brother Richard Whorley, brother Jerry Whorley, son Terry (Debbie) Thorne, son Dan Thorne, daughter Darlene (Michael) Judkins, daughter Donna Naples, ten grandchildren, and seventeen great grandchildren. Services will be held on Friday, September 16, 2022, at Purdy & Walters at Floral Hills. A private graveside service will be held, followed by a gathering for family and friends at her home in Lynnwood, Washington.
