Don Ashby, 94, of Lynnwood, Washington passed away on October 27th 2023, with his wife by his side. He was born on January 12th 1929, in San Francisco, California to John Ashby and Florence (Dolly) Barwise.
Don is survived by his wife (Bobbie) and three of his sons: Larry of Everett, WA, Scott of Dickinson, ND, Bryan (Mike Eskew) of Portland, OR, and daughter-in-law Karla of Gig Harbor, WA. He also leaves behind five grandchildren: Nick Fattal (Stephanie), Tyler Ashby, Kyle Ashby, Nico Ashby-Eskew and Emilee Ashby-Eskew as well as seven great grandchildren: Maverick, Anabelle, Hudson and Carter Ashby, and Theo, Lukas and Lucy Fattal. Don is also survived by several in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, his brother (Dick), his son (Brad), his daughter (Lorrie), his grandson (Nicholas), and his nephew (Doug).
Don attended Maplewood Elementary in Puyallup and Bagley Elementary in Seattle. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Seattle (1947) and attended the University of Washington.
Don proudly served in the Washington National Guard from 1949 to 1953.
He married Marjorie Johnson in 1955 and they raised their four children. In 1975, Don married Bobbie Marberg-Tirado after the two met while chaperoning the same ski school bus. Once married, he became a father to her son, Bryan.
For over forty years, he worked at American Can Company; initially in Seattle and later in Salem, Oregon. He was the plant’s Payroll Accountant.
In his younger years, he enjoyed snow skiing, golf, and tennis. He was an avid sports fan and loved watching the Seahawks, Mariners, Sonics, and the UW Huskies. Don was a member of Good Shepherd Baptist Church in Lynnwood, WA, where he found solace and cultivated lifelong friendships.
Don and Bobbie loved traveling to Hawaii, Mexico, the Oregon Coast, and various ski areas in the United States, Canada, and New Zealand. In 1993, the two spent a year in Brisbane, Australia where Bobbie did a teacher exchange while Don volunteered in her classroom.
He was happiest when he spent time with family at home, on vacation, or at the family cabin on Stevens Pass. He will be remembered for his sweet smile, gentle spirit, sparkle in his eyes, and his sense of humor.
A celebration of Don’s life will take place on his heavenly 95th birthday, January 12th, 2024. The service will be held at 1:00PM at Purdy and Walters at Floral Hills, located at 409 Filbert Road, Lynnwood, Washington 98036.
