She was born on May 5, 1941 in Seattle, Washington to Harold M. Clough and Beulah Louise Farmer Clough.
Betty and her sister, Molly Ann Clough Norris, grew up in West Seattle in a home with a beautiful view of the city. They played stick ball in the back alley and "funeral" on the front lawn of busy 35th Ave SW. She talked about her one school dress, which she washed every day after school and then hung to dry. Her mother worked, so Betty was responsible for having dinner cooked for the family each day. Her first job was at Kress at 3rd Ave & Pike St. in Seattle, where she earned $1/hour.
Betty married Ralph Edmund Oberstadt on August 22, 1959 in her parents’ home in Seattle. They were later sealed for time and for all eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Betty and Ralph eventually settled in Edmonds, Washington, where they raised four children. They were blessed with twelve grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Mother and homemaker were Betty’s life’s work. Being a grandma was one of her favorite roles. She also enjoyed cooking and is remembered by many for the good meals and treats she prepared and shared. She learned to sew and made many clothes and costumes for her children and others over the years. She grew a vegetable garden every year and kept up a beautiful yard of flowers and landscaping. She lived a life of service, blessing not only her family, but often taking meals or babysitting for those in need, as well as teaching classes in church.
Betty was preceded in death by her father, Harold M. Clough; her mother, Beulah Louise Farmer Clough; and infant grandson, Steven Douglas Hepworth.
She is survived by husband Ralph Edmund Oberstadt; daughters Ann Marie Hepworth (Marv) and Catherine Louise Schooff (Mike); sons David Harold Oberstadt (Lisa) and Michael William Oberstadt (Kara); grandchildren Sarah Wheeler, Daniel Hepworth, Matthew Schooff, Stephanie Gubler, Brian Schooff, Jennifer Larsen, Justin Oberstadt, Jacob Oberstadt, Dante Pimental, Sarah Oberstadt, Constance Pimental, Emily Pimental, Hannah Oberstadt, Miriam Oberstadt, Adam Oberstadt-Petrik, and Aaron Oberstadt; and great grandchildren, Amanda and Emily Wheeler, Kimberly, Amy, and Evelyn Schooff; and Arianna and Emmeline Gubler.
She is greatly loved and will be missed until we meet her again, thanks to the love, sacrifice, and Atonement of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Trusting in Him brings us peace and healing for our grief.
A private family service will be held at Purdy & Walters at Floral Hills Funeral Home & Cemetery in Lynnwood, Washington.
The family welcomes donations to Alzheimer’s Association as an expression of sympathy.
