Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late William Leo Twomey Sr. and Catherine (Hyde). William was born during the Depression and had a humble upbringing. He entered St John’s Seminary in Boston after graduating from St Mary’s High School in 1954. Four years later, he had earned his Bachelor’s Degree but had decided that the priesthood was not the right path for him. Upon leaving the seminary, he was drafted into the U.S Army where he met his first wife, Mary. Together they had three children. They divorced after 19 years of marriage. Bill taught school until he purchased his first business in 1969. From that time on, he owned and operated numerous businesses in the healthcare field for the entirety of his life. In 1982 he met the love of his life, Janet. Because of their devoted faith, they obtained annulments before marrying in 1986. They lived throughout the North Shore before finally settling in Peabody. The two had a slight obsession with travel and took numerous trips to Europe, Canada and the Caribbean including eleven journeys to his beloved family homeland of Ireland. In his later years, Bill became increasingly devoted to his church, St Adelaide’s. He would attend Mass daily and then return home to care for his beloved wife, Janet. Above all else, Bill loved his family, especially his grandchildren for whom his love was boundless. Those he loved the most are heartbroken and will miss him more than words can say.
In addition to his wife, he leaves behind his 3 adored children, Moira Sandiford of Eagan, MN, William Twomey III of Newburyport, and Kathy Westgate and her husband Allen of Orlando, FL, his 6, cherished grandchildren Kim Berhens and her husband Kevin of Farmington, MN, Brian Sandiford of Lynn, Jackie Sandiford of Farmington, MN, Rachel Sandiford of Beverly, Katelyn Westgate of Lake Nona, FL, Daniel Westgate of Columbus, GA, and his dear great-grandson Logan Berhens. He was also the brother of Rita Truax of Lynn and the late Claire Campus, Margaret Ryan and Tim Twomey.
