William was born in Lowell, son of the late William J. and Marion (Underwood) Degan. He resided in Lowell for many years, after retiring he moved to Tucson, Arizona and in 2003 moved to Winthrop.
He was a Machinist for Western Electric in North Andover for over 30 years until his retirement.
He was a United States Navy veteran and served during WW II and the Korean Conflict.
William was an avid golfer and candlepin bowler.
He is survived by his children Peter W. Degan and his longtime companion Donna Smith of Winthrop and Charles Mathison and his wife Patti of Groveland, two brothers Daniel and Richard Degan both of Lowell, two sisters Alice McNeil of Beverly and Pat Rappazza of Lowell. Also survived by one grandson Jack Mathison and many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late John Degan, Kay McFadgen and Marion Charters.
The family wishes to thank all the staff at the Life Care Center of Lynn for the outpouring of love and support they showed to William while he was living there.
