Stuart was the son of the late William J. and Olive R. (Brindley) Ross. He grew up in Roxbury and later graduated from Lynn Vocational Technical School. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1959 to 1962. He entered into The Salvation Army’s School for Officer’s Training from 1962 to 1964. Stuart was commissioned as an ordained minister with The Salvation Army in 1964 and served at various appointments across New England. Stuart married the love of his life BettyAnn (Osterfield) Ross in January 1965 and later moved to Peabody in 1974 where he raised his family. Stuart worked as a bookkeeper at The Salvation Army until his retirement.
He was a dedicated member of The Salvation Army in Lynn, MA where he also volunteered. Stuart loved to play his horn in The Salvation Army’s brass band and taught Adult Sunday School for many years. He loved the Lord, enjoyed music and brass banding, was a dedicated Red Sox fan, and enjoyed crossword puzzles as well as researching family history. He cherished his time spent with family and friends.
Stuart is the devoted father of Andrew Ross and his wife Kimberly of Fitchburg, BethEllen Parkhurst and her husband Gilbert of East Stroudsburg, PA, Jonathan Ross and his wife Kelly of Huguenot, NY, Joel Ross of Peabody, and Timothy Ross and his wife Nicole of Lowell. He was also the cherished grandfather of 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service for Stuart Ross will be held on Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, 185 Lake St., Peabody, MA 01960 where mask wearing and social distancing are required. A Memorial Service for Stuart Ross will be held at a later date due to the current COVID-19 restrictions.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to The Salvation Army, 1 Franklin St. Lynn, MA 01902 for use towards music scholarship at Camp Wonderland in his name. Please indicate “Memorial – Music Scholarship” in memo line.
