Stephen V. “Ditch” Ditchfield passed away at the Country Center for Health & Rehabilitation at the age of 71 after a lengthy battle with esophageal cancer. He was born on January 31, 1944 and raised in Lynn, MA by the late John and Josephine Evelyn Ditchfield (Thorpe). A student athlete, he graduated from Lynn Vocational Technical High School in 1961. In the same year, he enlisted in the United States Navy and began 21 years of proud service until his retirement in 1985, followed by an honorary ceremony on the USS Constitution. He worked for General Electric as a machinist and was a member of the IUE-CWA Local 201 in Lynn until his retirement in 1992. He was most recently a resident of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina where he has lived for the last 12 years. Steve is survived by his wife, Judith (Nelson) Ditchfield, his brother, Allan Ditchfield and his wife Priscilla, his three children, Stephen Ditchfield and his wife Jodi, Debra Infiorati and her husband Jeff, David Ditchfield and his wife Sarah, and ten grandchildren, Lily, Payton, Stephen, Grace, Jessica, Daniel, Jennifer, Blake, Riley, and Lucy. He lived a full life, proudly served his country, witnessed and enjoyed all of his Boston sports teams win championships, improved his golf game while ‘working’ at Blackmoor Golf Club in South Carolina, and, mostly, enjoyed good times with his friends and family. He will be forever missed. Stephen’s Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, September 3rd at 11:00 AM at the Nahant Life Saving Station, 300 Nahant Road, Nahant, 01908. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, September 2nd, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the CUFFE-MCGINN FUNERAL HOME, 157 Maple St. Lynn. Interment will be private.
