Ronald Francis Sikorski, Of Reading at Age 73, passed away in his home on Friday, September 9, 2016. Born in Chelsea on October 7, 1942, he was the son of the late John and Stella (Sanak) Sikorski. Ronald was raised and educated in Lynn. He attended St. Michaels’ Grammar School and then went on to complete high school in Lynn Vocational and Technical Institute where he also played football. He was also a member of the Catholic Youth Organization where he ran track. Ronald answered the call to serve our country during the Vietnam War. He honorably served in the US Air Force from January 14, 1963 until his discharge on December 8, 1966. Upon his discharge, Ronald had attained the rank of Airman, 1st Class and was awarded with the National Defense Service Medal. He returned after his military service and began working with the General Electric Company in Lynn. Ronald was a dedicated employee and worked as a Tinsmith until his retirement in 2000. Due to a GE strike, Ronald worked briefly as a bartender at St. Michael’s Hall and also worked as a security guard for the South Boston Medical Clinic.
Ronald married his sweetheart, Catherine McKinnon, in California on October 19, 1964. The couple drove from California across the country, sharing in many adventures together before finally settling in Lynn to begin their family. Ronald and Catherine spent 27 years in marriage together raising and caring for their family until Catherine’s passing in August of 1991. In his later years, Ronald spent his free time as a member of a bowling league located out of Peabody. He also enjoyed shooting rounds of golf at area courses. He also enjoyed vacationing on various cruise lines as well. His big heart also led him to help volunteer around the holiday season. He volunteered for a local church in Reading at Thanksgiving time. He would help serve the dinners and even picked up attendees who couldn’t make the drive out. He also played Santa for many Christmas’ at the Callahan School in Lynn. An avid New England Patriots fan, Ronald and his brother, John, were one-time season ticket holders for the Patriots back when they played at the former Schaefer Stadium. A chance encounter as a young boy with the legendary Yogi Berra turned into a life-long love Ronald had for the New York Yankees. A warm and gracious man, Ronald will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Ronald is survived by his children: Carol Lomasney and her husband, David of York, ME and Ronald Sikorski of Williston, VT, his grandchildren: Stephanie and Ashley Lomasney, Kayla Levatin, and Ronald “RJ” Sikorski, Jr. as well as his sister-in-law, Janice Sikorski of Lynn. In addition to his parents, Ronald was preceded in death by his brother, John Sikorski.
Funeral from the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple St. LYNN on Thursday, September 15, 2016 at 10 AM followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Pius V Church, 215 Maple St. Lynn at 11 AM. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. Visiting Hours will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 from 4 to 7 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ronald’s memory may be made to the American cancer Society, 30 Speen St. Framingham, MA 01701.
