Mr. Robert F. “Bob” White Jr., age 73, of Peabody, died Wednesday, February 19, 2014 after a brief illness. He was the longtime sweetheart of Joann Baker of Lynn and the former husband to Doreen (Boland) O’Leary of Danvers
Born in Lynn, Bob was the son of the late Joan (Devoe) White and Robert F. and Dorothy (Dobson) White. He attended Lynn Schools and was a graduate of the former Lynn Trade School Class of 1958. He enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed in England and Germany and was honorably discharged as an Airman 2nd Class.
Bob worked at the General Electric Co. in turbine engines while attending New England Appliance Service School and then Newbury Jr. College. Gradually working his way up the corporate ladder, Bob worked as an International Field Representative as a Generator Maintenance Specialist for G.E. He was entered into the prestigious G.E. “Hall of Fame” in Schenectady, NY for his outstanding contributions to the power industry in 1991. His work took him all over the world and he embraced each trip he made making new friends wherever he went.
After his retirement in 1996, Bob spent many sunny days playing golf or lounging at his pool with his family and friends. He was so proud of his affiliation and membership with Valladolid Council #70 Knights of Columbus, the Connery Post and many other societies to which he belonged. He will be sadly missed by all that knew him. His family wishes to thank all the wonderful caregivers at the Putnam Farm at Danvers community for their tremendous support and love they showed Bob.
He leaves his children: Robert B. White and his companion Patricia Acres, Teresa J. White-Hackett and her fiancé Kenneth Granlund, Shawn White, and Mark White all of Danvers. He was the Grandfather to MaryFrances White and Makenzie Hackett. Also survived by his aunts and cousins. He was the brother to the late Richard White.
Bob’s Funeral will be held from the CUFFE-MCGINN FUNERAL HOME, 157 Maple St. Lynn on Saturday at 8:00AM followed by a Funeral Mass in St Ann’s Church, Peabody at 9:00AM. Relatives and friends invited. Interment Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting Hours Friday 4-8PM.
