Robert Phillip Smallwood, a long-time resident of Lynn, passed away in the Bertram House in Swampscott at the age of 81. Born in Lynn, Bob was the son of the late John H. and Margaret (McArdle) Smallwood. Bob was raised and educated in Lynn. He enlisted in to the US Army to help fight for our country during the Vietnam War. He served bravely until his honorable discharge on December 4, 1962. Bob had a long career as a driver for first, the Hood Co., and then with General Electric Co. He retired from GE in 2004. Bob was a proud friend for over 45 years of Bill W. He met and helped many amazing friends throughout Lynn as he visited many different meetings. Bob was also a very accomplished singer and spent time singing and competing in different Barbershop Quartet groups.
Bob leaves his siblings; John H. Smallwood, Jr of Exeter, NH, Margaret McGuirk of Athol, Ellen Cameron and her husband, John of Marblehead, and Thomas Smallwood of Hampton, NH. Bob also leaves his sister-in-law; Marion Smallwood of Sandwich, his brother-in-law; Roland Michaud of Uxbridge, many nieces and nephews as well as his very dear, long-time friends; John Nihan and Greg Muse. Bob was preceded in death by his siblings; James L. Smallwood, Herbert T. Smallwood, and Sallie Michaud as well as his sisters-in-law; Patricia Smallwood, Virginia Smallwood, Katheryn M. Smallwood and his brother-in-law; Charles McGuirk.
Visiting Hours will be held in the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple St. Lynn on Thursday, October 11, 2018 from 3 to 7pm. A Funeral Service will be held in the funeral home on Friday, October 12, 2018 at 11am. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Lynn.
