Dick was born in Stoneham, MA on February 27, 1945 to John MacPherson and Lorraine (Sutherland) MacPherson. After graduating high school, he joined the Navy. After completing his service he earned his electricians license and spent most of his working years as an electrician at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.
He was a member of Lions Clubs International for 50 years. He was dedicated to raising money for Lions Eye Research. In 2008, he through-hiked the Appalachian Trial, getting pledges to support this cause. Then, in 2009 he did this again, through-hiking the Pacific Crest Trail. Each trek took six months. He was proud to be the first male member of the Lynn Shoe City Lions Club, and a cabinet member of Massachusetts Lions District 33N.
He didn’t give life much chance to pass him by. He learned to fly solo, scuba-dived at home and once in the Great Barrier Reef, skied in several European countries, traveled most of the states and some of the world, feel in love with the game of geocaching, made home-brew, and kept bees.
Besides his beloved wife, Dick is survived by his children, Brenda MacPherson of Peabody, and Travis MacPherson of Middleton; his siblings, Robert MacPherson of Jacksonville, OR, Patricia (MacPherson), and Michael MacPherson both of Nova Scotia. He will be dearly missed by all of his family and friends.
He was predeceased by his son, Ryan, his dear parents, and brothers, John and Thomas.
Arrangements: Due to Covid-19, in keeping with the state of Massachusetts regulations, all services will be held at a later date. As an expression of sympathy, donations in Dick’s honor may be made to Massachusetts Lions Eye Research Fund. [ Mlerfi.com ]
