Pauline A. (Steckel) Kennedy, of Lynn, passed away Sunday, Feb. 8 at a local nursing home at the age of 86. She was the loving wife of the late Leo J. Kennedy, with whom she shared 59 years of marriage, and raised two sons, (the late) Michael J. Kennedy and James Kennedy of Bothell, Wash.
She was the eldest daughter of late Polish Immigrants, Joseph and Helen Steckel, and is predeceased by her sister Caroline (Cahill) and brother Joseph Steckel.
As an honor roll student she graduated from Lynn Classical High School, and although she didn’t go to college, she excelled in everything she did. She was an excellent seamstress, wonderful cook and hostess, and had a generous heart, especially to those closest to her.
She worked for many years at Mass Electric, retiring in 1988. In the early years of retirement, she and Leo spent a lot of time traveling to different countries. They enjoyed seeing new places and when they got home from their travels, Pauline got a kick out of trying the recipes she learned abroad. She and Leo spent 10 wonderful years in Lady Lake, Fla., where they enjoyed time with friends, entertaining visiting family, golfing and taking a break from the New England cold. They returned to Lynn in 2004.
Other survivors include daughter-in-law Candis Kennedy of Wilmington, N.C., grandchildren Michael Kennedy and fiance Jaqueline Moran of Lynn, Jamie Jankowski and husband Mike of Wilmington, N.C., David Kennedy of Bellevue, Wash., Brendan Kennedy of Lynn, great-grandson Bohdi of Lynn, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
The family appreciates the people at Pilgrim Rehab and Nursing Home who loved Pauline and took good care of her, and also the staff from Compassionate Care Hospice who worked with her. Your kindness didn’t go unnoticed. Memorial gifts may be sent to Compassionate Care, Hospice Foundation, 11 Independence Way, Newark, DE 19713
