Mervin E. “Merv” Veinot, age 82, of Peabody (formerly Saugus), passed away on Monday, October 23, 2023 after a lengthy illness. He was the beloved husband of Patricia “Faye” (Sarsfield) Veinot, with whom he shared 61 years of marriage.
He was the devoted father to Sheila (John) Scully of Newport, ME, Anne (Michael) Powers of Danvers, and Jennifer (David) Miller of Palm Coast, FL, he was the much loved “Papa” to Jennifer (Aaron) Elliot, John “Joey” (Kyrestaine) Scully, Zachary (Madeleine) Powers, Matthew Powers, and Ryan Miller, and the great-grandfather to Daniel Powers. He was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Hilda (Bruhm) Veinot, siblings Louise Veinot, Vernon (Alberta/Jenny) Veinot, Garnet Veinot, Carolyn Veinot, Lillian Nickerson, and brother-in-law Lorin Sarsfield. He is survived by his siblings David (Veronica) Veinot, Joan (Sheldon) Bisson, Brenda (Glen) Crouse, brother-in-law Bernie Nickerson, sister-in-law Sherry (Barrie) Marshall, along with many nieces and nephews.
Born and raised in Nova Scotia, Canada, he turned his love of cars and anything mechanical into a career. In the early 70’s he moved his family to the USA and worked as a mechanic for American Airlines at Boston Logan Airport for 25 years before his retirement. Retiring early meant he could spend more time with his grandchildren and help his children renovate their houses and fix their cars. He was truly a handyman. If he didn’t know how to fix something, he figured it out by trial and error and was always successful in the end. He was proud to become a citizen of the United States of America in ‘94. He was baptized, became a member and deacon of Austin Square Baptist Church after a cancer diagnosis 20 years ago. He beat cancer and his family treasured the extra years they got to spend with him.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, October 30, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Austin Square Baptist Church,10 Keslar Avenue, Lynn. Burial will immediately follow at 12:00 pm at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park.
