Born in Lynn, Maureen was the daughter of Ann E. (Daley) Thompson of Swampscott and the late Luke E. Thompson. She was a graduate of Swampscott High School Class of 1970. She later graduated from Salem State College with a Bachelors of Science in Education.
Maureen began teaching in the Swampscott Schools in 1994 as a kindergarten teacher at the Stanley School. From 1996 to 1998, she taught at the Hadley School and then returned to the Stanley School where she taught first grade until the time of her death. She was a communicant and Religious Education program volunteer at St. John the Evangelist Church.
Maureen’s life was centered around her family and her many cherished friends. Her life was punctuated around celebrations. She loved to host parties, which bonded people more deeply together. Her house was always welcoming and inviting to anyone. Some of her happiest times were spent in the White Mountains of New Hampshire surrounded by nature. Wherever she went she shared her experiences and love of the outdoors with her students.
Always close to her heart, along with her husband and mother, are Maureen’s children, Bobby Ingram and his girlfriend Jennifer of Detroit, MI, Matt Ingram and his wife Karen of Orlando, FL and Casey Ingram and her boyfriend Christopher of Swampscott. She leaves her brothers Luke E. “Eddie” Thompson, Jr. and his wife Debbie of Haverhill, Terrence “Terry” Thompson of Harrison, ME, Kevin Thompson of Swampcott; her sister, Colleen Thompson-Wilkens and her husband Peter of Marblehead, and her identical twin sister Kathie Canavan and her husband Paul of Marblehead. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins and her beloved current and former students. Maureen will now be reunited with her father, Luke E. Thompson, her brother, Timothy Thompson, and many cherished aunts and uncles.
Maureen’s Funeral will be held from the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home 157 Maple St. LYNN on Tuesday at 10:00AM followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John the Evangelist Church, Swampscott at 11:00AM. Relatives and friends invited. Interment Swampscott Cemetery. Visiting Hours Monday 4-8PM.
