Mary E. (Forry) Calnan, of Lynn and Middleton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, with her loving family by her side. She was the wife of the late Francis A. Calnan, with whom she shared 53 years of marriage.
Born in Lynn, she was the daughter of Irish immigrants, the late Nora (Revins) and Mark Forry. She attended St. Mary’s Grammar School and St. Mary’s Girl’s High School Class of 1954. Mary worked for Transitron Electronic Corp before staying home full-time with her children. She later returned to work with the City of Lynn Parking Department, followed by her role as the switchboard operator for Lynn City Hall until she and Frank retired together. Mary was quick with a hug and could strike up a conversation with anyone and everyone. She loved all things Irish and Boston sports teams. Her favorite hobbies were spending time with the love of her life, Frankie, and especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed Saturday outings with her siblings and family members and travels to Ireland.
Mary leaves her children: Mark Calnan, Theresa Calnan, Christine (Patrick) Pisanelli, James (Brenda) Calnan, David (Erin Magrane) Calnan, Thomas (Lori) Calnan, Daniel (Kristin) Calnan, Laura (Ron) Rexilius, and Sean (Erin) Calnan. She was the grandmother of Corinne (Justin Ramstine) Calnan, Edward (Meg) Calnan, Angelina (Nick Lopresti) Calnan, Kieran (Julia) Calnan, Ryan, Aidan, Carly, Elizabeth, Abigail, Christopher, Kailen Calnan, and the late Connor Calnan, and leaves three great-grandchildren, Rowan, Paddy, and Lila, and many loving nieces and nephews. Mary also leaves behind sisters Ann Glowik, Theresa (John) Sadowski, Catherine Lowry, sister-in-law Maryclare Forry, brother-in-law Walter Donovan, and brother-in-law Edward T. (Susan) Calnan. She is predeceased by her brother, Jack Forry, sisters Margaret “Peggy” Donovan and Josephine Forry, and daughter-in-law, Nina Calnan.
Mary's family would like to share their heartfelt gratitude to Sunrise of Lynnfield's caregivers and staff for their kindness and compassion over the last six years. They all loved Mary and took wonderful care of her.
Mary’s funeral will be held on Monday, September 30, at 9:30 a.m. from the Cuffe McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple Street, Lynn, followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Pius V Church at 10:30 a.m. and interment in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Visiting Hours Sunday, 3-6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her name may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association, 320 Nevada Street, Suite 201, Newton, MA.
