Born in Lynn to the late Raymond and Helen Raney. Marilyn was a graduate of Lynn English High School and later raised her family in Lynn. She loved interacting with people, was a dedicated member and volunteer at Grace United Methodist Church, along with volunteering as her daughter’s Blue Bird and Camp Fire leader.
She started her career at the iconic store Zimman’s in Lynn and later worked at Essex Bank as Head Teller, recently expressing how proud she was to remember all of her customers’ names. She ended her career at Long’s Jewelers at the age of 75.
Marilyn loved playing golf, especially the yearly Shaw Invitational Golf Tournament that lasted over 30 years with 3 generations of family, her girls weekends with her sister, daughters and granddaughters. She especially loved her club friends who got together every Wednesday night to play cards and share a few laughs.
Marilyn is survived by her daughters, Karen Cuthbert and her husband Tom and Diane Stilian and her husband Jim; her grandchildren, Brian Cuthbert, Jason Cuthbert and his wife Moira, Colleen Cuthbert and her partner Nick Rhode, Melissa Stilian and her fiancé Josh Seigel, Shawna Berni and her husband Anthony, Nicholas Stilian and Jessica Tobin; and her 9 great-grandchildren. She was also a special friend and role model to her niece Ann and fellow co-worker Karen Hodgson.
In addition to her husband and parents, Marilyn is predeceased by her son Steven Shaw and her siblings Robert Raney and Jean Evans.
Marilyn’s visitation will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2023 from 9:00 to 10:00 AM at Grace United Methodist Church, 347 Broadway, Lynn, with a funeral service following at 10:00 AM. Burial will be at Pine Grove Cemetery.
