Peggy Ray, Mrs. Margaret A. (Simmons) Ray, age 82, of Lynn, died Saturday morning, under the new moon, surrounded by loved ones, after a lengthy illness. She was the beloved wife of the late John W. Ray. Born in Beverly, she was the daughter of the late John and Veronica (Foy) Simmons, and sister of the late Marian McDonald.
Peggy met her husband jitterbugging under the stars, and resided with
him in Lynn for most of her life, where they raised five children.
She loved music and dancing, second only to laughing over a nice cup of tea with her children. She also enjoyed pretty hats, and stolen naps, long-distance hugs from her youngest son, the smell of the sea, and an
ice-cream cone, her garden view, crosswords puzzles, boat rides,
her grand-dog Okie’s funny smile, and travelling to beautiful places.
She cared little for material possessions, in favor of enjoying the moment. Through life’s trials she was strong and resilient. She had a beautiful voice and sparkled when she smiled. She never hurt a fly.
She leaves her children: John Ray, Jr. of Utah, Michael E. Ray of California, Kathleen Lyons and her husband, Arthur, of Marion, Loreen Ray of Cambridge, and Lisa Ray of Ipswich; and was a dancing inspiration to her granddaughter, Amy, and 17 beloved grandchildren, 4 great.
Her big brown eyes will be deeply missed.
Her Funeral will be held from the CUFFE-MCGINN FUNERAL HOME, 157 Maple St. Lynn on Saturday, May 30th at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church at 10:30am. Relatives and friends invited. Burial will be private. Visiting Hours, Friday, May 29th, 5-7 PM. Please visit online memorial and guest book at www.cuffemcginn.com
