Dr. Margaret Ann (Bath) Mahoney, age 67 of Nahant, entered into rest on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 after a long illness, at home surrounded by her loving family. She is the beloved wife of Michael J. Mahoney, with whom she shared 44 years of marriage.
Born in Lynn to the late Richard and Alice (Street) Bath and grew up in Nahant. Margaret was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School. She went on to earn her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Boston College, Master of Science from Salem State University and a Doctorate in Nursing Sciences from Boston College. She was an assistant professor of nursing at Northeastern University and Mass General Institute where she taught community health. She was an active member of Sigma Theta Tau and presented her work at conferences around the world.
Her true work passion lay in community healthcare; she was the nurse manager at Upham’s Home Health Care and worked throughout the neighborhoods of Dorchester and Roxbury. Here she connected with the community of Redemptorists at Boston’s Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual Help and formed a loving bond with the many priests she cared for over the years. She loved sailing, camping, traveling, and the performing arts. She cherished time spent with her husband, children, grandchildren, family, and friends.
In addition to her loving husband, Margaret is survived by her devoted children Kate Mahoney and Chris Kianka of Lynn, Marybeth Mahoney and Melissa Thompson of Nahant, and Sean Mahoney and his wife Christine of Washingtonville, NY; her cherished grandchildren Alice, Charlotte, and Owen Mahoney; and her loving brother Joseph Bath.
Friends and family are invited to attend Margaret’s visitation on Wednesday, September 1st from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Her funeral will be held from Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home on Thursday, September 2nd at 8:00 am followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 am at Boston’s Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 1545 Tremont St, Boston. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Nahant. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Margaret’s memory to the American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org.
