Mr. Leonard A. Donnelly, age 94, of Peabody formerly of Danvers, died Sunday in the Lahey Clinic, Burlington after a lengthy illness. He was the beloved husband of the late Marian (Felch) Donnelly, with whom he had shared 49 years of marriage.
Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late Thomas A. and Hannah (Hamilton) Donnelly. He attended Lynn Schools and was a graduate of Lynn English High School. He was a resident of Peabody for 25 years, previously living in Danvers for close to 30 years.
Leonard enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps and proudly served his country during World War II. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in 1945. Prior to his retirement, he was employed at the Witham Caterers and also worked a salesman for Filene’s of Peabody for over 20 years.
He was a life member of the VFW and American Legion. He loved writing, was a great storyteller and was devoted to his family.
Leonard leaves his daughter, Betty J. Minton and her husband Michael of Peabody and his daughter-in-law, Frances Squires of Peabody. He was the Grandfather to Richard and Kevin Donnelly, Jennifer Fiorentino and Michael Minton. He also leaves his great grandchildren, Ryan, Matthew, Hannah and Finn Donnelly and Ava and Tiffany Fiorentino. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Lauretta Whitwam, Marion Tracchia, Thomas Donnelly, Helena Rowe, Richard Donnelly, Edward Donnelly, Ray Donnelly, Robert Donnelly and Willard Donnelly, who was killed in action during World War II.
Leonard’s Funeral will be held from the CUFFE-MCGINN FUNERAL HOME, 157 Maple St. Lynn on Thursday at 9:30AM followed by a Funeral Mass in Saint Pius V Church at 10:30AM. Relatives and friends invited. Interment Puritan Lawn Memorial Park. Visiting Hours Wednesday 4-8PM.
