Mrs. Joan Elizabeth (Heath) Day, age 94, of Lynn, died peacefully at the Life Care Center of the North Shore on Friday, September 20, 2024. She was the wife of the late Arthur (Bud) C. Day. She was the daughter of the late Allen and Mary (Preston) Heath.
Born and educated in Lynn, she went on to graduate from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and then for many years she worked as a substitute teacher for the Lynn Public Schools.
She was a dedicated member of the United Methodist Church in Lynn where she ran the Sunday School Program and loved to volunteer or help with any activities involving the church. She was involved with the Wyoma Little League Program as well as the Band Boosters for Lynn English High School. If her children were involved, she was there volunteering to help in any manner possible.
Joan was always described as a very compassionate women, often offering help to anyone in need. During her final years while in the Life Care Center of the North Shore, she was well known for helping others having a bad day by simply holding their hands. She did the same to the nurses and staff who assisted her to show her gratitude, appreciation and love. This simple gesture made her children so proud.
She absolutely loved the family’s summer camp in the White Mountains where she spent all of her summer weekends swimming, boating, and water skiing with family and close friends. She helped build the camp with her father and mother, Allen and Mary Heath, as well as her husband, Bud and other close friends. Some of the best times of her life were spent there.
Joan leaves her daughter Linda Tarpinian of Swampscott and two sons, James Day of Lynn and Charles Day of Hampton NH, three grandchildren, John Tarpinian, Peter Tarpinian, and Kyle Day and four great grandchildren, Raymond, Cecelia, Matthew and Elise. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her sister Helen Thrall of Connecticut.
Her wish was to be cremated and a private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers or cards, she asked donations be made in her memory to the Life Care Center of the North Shore via their website: https://lcca.com/locations/ma/north-shore/ or the MSPCA-Angell Northeast Animal Shelter via their website: https://www.mspca.org/adoption-centers/northeast-animal-shelter/
